Does anyone know if we can set up the handhelds to work remotely outside of the restaurant (like away from the restaurant at an outdoor event)?

The answer is yes. HOWEVER you will only be able to offline authorize credit cards and you would not be able to send orders to a printer. So you understand, you will not be able to confirm funds or close cards until you are back on your main TOAST network. But it can be very handy especially for cash transactions. When I used it for an offsite event ALL of the cards went through when it reengaged with our home network with no problems! Happy to share how we set it up if you would like.
