When something goes negative it's usually someone with an item already in their cart or in house on a tab that hasn't been sent yet when the count is put in or 86'd. Best way to avoid this is to try and stay ahead of items that are low and get counts in as early as possible. I have also heard that the reorder function of online ordering can cause this to happen as well but I have never seen it personally.

Hi Toasty people!

Question - has anyone else had the issue of customers being able to order 86ed items through third party apps (causing the stock to go from 0 to negative)? I've seen this at my last job and at my current job but Toast reps always say "I've never seen this before." I've been instructed to contact the third parties directly and they don't have anything to say because our full menu is managed on Toast.

We've also had glitches where we've received direct orders outside of order time ranges or for 86ed items come through. I assume it has to do with an already built cart in an open browser window but haven't been able to get any reason from the Toast team on this either. Anyone else have this happen?

Thanks for replying! 🙂 Got it - gosh, it happens so often for us, especially with UberEats, that it feels like more than just an already built cart or a reorder but maybe that is it.

Totally heard on keeping up on low counts - we definitely do that. Even when it hurts our hearts to as we are a bakery and get a lot of pre-orders for the future. Since future orders pull from the same inventory as current orders, we hate limiting what someone can order in the future. Please change this, Toast!

I don't use Uber Eats or any other third parties, just the toast online ordering so I am not too sure about that part of it, maybe someone else can chime in on that. I think third party menus are a little slower to update though and not exactly real time.

There is a sync delay between toast pos and 3pd servers, which means from the moment an item is 86'ed people still can see that item available on 3pd platform until menu is synced.

And if people re-order an item from their past order but that item is currently out-of-stock, their order will still go through.

One Person can spend 20 minutes placing an order. Finding a credit card etc. someone walks in snd buys it they hit pay …it’s better than the whole order being rejected. Depending on the item give yourself a buffer of 2-3 in case one drops or someone counts wrong etc
