Discounts not matching up on sales summary vs cash/loss management

Why does the discount number on the sales summary page when looking at the category NOT match up the overall discounts when looking at the cash management/loss report and discount report?

They should match, there may be some items that don't have a sales category assigned that are not being included in the Sales Category section. Which is why that number is lower than the Discount Summary.

A big portion might be the gift card comp for $450 they don't have a sales category and are deferred sales. That doesn't make up the whole difference though, use advanced properties with sales category selected to quickly see if you are missing sales categories somewhere in your menus.
