topic Breaking up Large Orders into Smaller Tickets? in Restaurant Operations

Has anyone come up with a good workflow for breaking up large orders into smaller tickets for the kitchen, but then consolidating them to one ticket for payment?

We typically get large groups of 40+ that I would like to be able to break into smaller groups of say 4-6 and then have one payment at the end for the whole group. With that I would like to be able to assign each group a number that corresponds to their order.

Just wondering if anyone has come up with a good workflow for this. We are a fast casual restaurant, and everything is ordered to go from a walk-up window. I imagine I could ring in each ticket as cash and then make an adjustment at the end, but that sounds like a headache and accounting nightmare.
