topic Discounts and Waste Management in Restaurant Operations

I am trying to help set up our Toast system to allow for better tracking of waste.

Currently, if for example a server rings in an item wrong and the kitchen makes that item but then the item also needs to be remade, we have the server re-enter the item and we discount it at 100% and mark it as a waste or remake. The rule is every item the kitchen makes must have a ticket with it.
Is this the best method and if not what other methods should we be doing?

I have looked at the food waste management options available but that doesn't seem to apply in these situations or maybe I just don't understand.

I can see using the food waste when a beer is mispoured. For example, the server rings in a sample and the bartender pours a full pint. We need to track that somewhere.

Thank you for any tips or suggestions you have.

Thank you for reaching out to the community! We advise locations to apply the discount as you have described, since using a void indicates that the item wasn't made. Applying a discount in this manner makes sense. Additionally, I have attached our food waste tracker below in case you haven't seen it yet!

Get Started With Food Waste Reduction
