Now that pennies will stop being produced soon. Does Toast have a rounding plan in place? Banks are already warning of shortages.

Our bank (which we are obligated to use in an airport) has already stopped issuing pennies.

My bank told me last week that they can no longer get pennies from the Fed. Toast needs to issue a fix for this.

We received notice from our bank as well. We are in need of a rounding plan for Toast. It should just be able to round up the final amount, after taxes are calculated and added, to the nearest $.05 increment.

Can someone from Toast please address this issue that is affecting many if not all of us. Our banks are not issuing pennies either. A rounding solution is needed ASAP.

Thanks Rob - this is impacting the business I work for as well. We are no longer able to get pennies from our bank, so a rounding solution is necessary. Looking forward to hearing from Toast on this!

Looks like suggest a work around for now.

It is a Menu Group with 2 non taxable items (+.1 and -.1) a No Print prep station, and a specific Sales Category (like Drinks or Food) called "Cash Adjustments". You would need to add this menu group (to POS only) to all of the Menus in Toast, then cashiers would have to manually add the +1 or -1 items to get to an even number.

Thanks, everyone, for your continued feedback. This is the most recent update that I can provide!

We’re actively tracking requests related to cash rounding and the upcoming end of penny production. Several teams are currently assessing potential solutions. ~~While there aren’t set timelines to share just yet, this work is being evaluated for inclusion on our future roadmap sometime in 2026.~~
We are planning a Beta Launch in May!

In the meantime, one workaround is to create menu groups/ menu items specifically for rounding adjustments when cash transactions end in amounts that can’t be tendered once pennies are phased out.

For example, staff can manually apply rounding items at checkout such as “Rounding +$0.02” or “Rounding −$0.03” to bring totals to the nearest nickel.

We are manually applying rounding as a work around..... That is sloppy! How did Toast not see this coming and implement an actual solution?
While you are creating extra work for us and our employees, I have noticed that my Toast bill has gone UP, so that's cool!

This is laughable! Come on Toast. Make this a priority!

I was traveling recently and have already ran into 2 restaurant that didn't have pennies. First one had a sign blaming the bank. The other restaurant didn't have signs, but the cashier told me when I pulled out cash. On the receipt I was do .08, she gave me .05. So, she shorted me 3 cents. Personally I think there should be a line that says "Cash Rounded Total" .02 rounds down and .03 rounds up, simple. Credit cards can still be accurate to the cent.

Hi Rob!

Is there any new information on the rounding coming from Toast? It is seeming more and more immediate for an update that will allow for automatic rounding.

I haven't implemented the work around loophole yet that has been offered yet because it seems like it will be messy in front of a customer.

How is the work around functioning for everyone that has been doing it for a month or so now?

We have implemented the suggestion from Toast and for the time being, it has worked fine. However, we would much prefer to have it automatic as there have been repeated errors as the staff adjusts.
