Is anyone else struggling with settings for guest receipt printing?? For the last seven years, our guest check setup includes printing modifiers that have a price, pizza toppings for example. All other basic mods or special requests never printed on their receipts. Now, apparently after an update, we can only choose to print all mods or none? So, for example if they order a pizza and add four toppings, their bill shows just a pizza and a price. If we set it to print modifiers, the customer receipts show ALLERGY, DON'T MAKE, SEE SERVER, or other basic modifiers and all special requests, like IN A HURRY. There has got to be something I'm missing. I have been emailing, chatting, sending photos over the last week with support and today had a phone call. Has anyone found a work around? The answer from Toast so far has been, print them all or print none. Why do updates change things that work?

@tinathom I am assuming those requests are free so you just need to toggle off printing free modifiers and toggle off print free special requests. You can find this under guest receipt setup

Hi Josh, thanks for taking the time to respond. I double checked the settings for free mods and special requests and printed another guest receipt.

That's the issue, I want the guest to see modifiers that carry a price. Pizza toppings for example or any additions or substitutions like gluten free pasta. If they just see a price with the modifier charge rolled in, it invites a lot of questions and explanation. That is what has changed.

It looks like your settings are the correct, which version did you start to see this problem? I use similar setting and have not seen this issue (on 2.93) Have you tried clearing cache and re-syncing all data on your devices?

I just tried clearing everything and resynced all data, unfortunately, no change. We are on 2.94, I am not sure exactly when it updated, but we first noticed it last week. You bring up an interesting point about dining options, the free modifiers are only printing on take out order guest checks. If I ring the same items with the same mods for a dine in check, they are hidden. I just saw something new on Toast Central about creating custom dining options and setting their behaviors. I'll look more at that. Really appreciate your time here, thank you.

Thanks, I did not test a takeout order, after checking that I am getting the same results even on 2.93, changing behavior to dine-in like you mentioned works, and might be a temporary fix but it could cause issues for you since the whole order would behave like dine-in, so any of your takeout settings would not apply to the orders, and any item routing based on dining behavior. I don't think it is an intended change, might be a bug? I don't see any mention of it in release notes for 2.93 or 94 other than the ability to not show dining options on the POS. https://updates.toasttab.com/

I don't know if there is any solution there anyway, just the support article for the change with dining option POS visibility. Since this is affecting me as well I opened a ticket with support to let them know about the issue, i'll let you know if it I hear back.

I think I've hit on a work around. I created a new dining option labeled ORDER IN/TAKE AWAY, and set the behavior to none. On the main device at the hostess stand where most of take out is ordered, I set the default dining option to the new ORDER IN/, and so far success! The kitchen tickets look exactly the same with a new dining option. And on the receipt, no free mods or special requests show. We'll see if any problems crop up this way, but seems to work.

After thinking about it the reason why special requests free mods will always show on to go orders is the fact that you want customers to see what they wrote when they order online or at a kiosk free or not as that his how the to go receipt is generated.

**If you begin to use text to pay or one of the features where the customers do see the order you might actually want to keep it enabled for take-out as it is a good way to catch order mistakes if a customer receives an incorrect receipt as they place the order they can call and let you know to change it before its made.

UPDATE, it didn't fail, it was user error. I discovered the problem. The only issue we were running into when using the newly created dining option with none selected for behavior, was that it was coursing checks. So, you had to either change the all items to the same course before you sent it or check fire all after you sent it. Not a big deal just an extra step we didn't need. I was experimenting with selecting different behaviors for the new dining option to test what would happen, and when I used delivery as the behavior, that's when it disappeared. I was doing too many things in between other things and forgot that I changed the behavior. Now, it's back and appears where it should. The coursing issue is not a big deal, but if anyone knows how to avoid that, I would love to hear it.

I am sorry to say this work around ultimately failed. It worked for a few days, then for some reason the new dining option I created disappeared on all the the POS devices. It appears in the back office under dining options, It appears as selected in device set up, but does not appear as an option on the POS when creating a check, it defaults to no dining option selected, and only offers dine in, take out or Doordash take out. I tried restarting everything, but it has been gone for a few days. So back to square one.

Right, understood, thanks. I think the problem was all me, I was changing things and had forgotten what I had checked and unchecked.
