how do I remove duplicate items and get the barcodes to work?

I am new to the system and am trying to help my employer to clean up their items and get the barcodes to work. Can someone please help me I am not getting through to anyone on the customer service line.

Remove duplicate items can get a little bit tricky depending on your menu setup. Usually I would go to Items Database, search item/modifier names that have duplicates, and then archive the duplicate ones.
