We are having a recurring issue when someone is paying a partial balance with a gift card, and the remainder of the balance with a credit card. To my knowledge, there is no way for the gift card payment to show as part of the itemized receipt on the credit card slip. Therefore, guests will get confused and sometimes over tip (which we then need to refund.)
Example: Guest check is $1,000. They pay with a $200 gift card for a remaining balance of $800. The server would like to make sure they are tipped on the total amount, so they give them the original itemized. Then the credit card is run for the $800. The CC slip only shows $800 payment, so the gratuity would be lower. But what we find happening is if they tip correctly off the total, they are adding it to the original total. So their math would be: $160 gratuity, but put $1,160 on the CC slip.
Kind of confusing without showing it. But if the Gift Card redeem was able to be shown on the credit card itemized slip, it would make it more clear for what is happening. If anyone else has this issue or has a solution, please let me know!
