I have a employee appreciation event coming up and want to allow them to order drinks individually online ahead of time. I created a promo code with 100% discount so they don't have to pay (company is paying), but Toast doesn't allow a zero balance payment to go through. Any ideas on how I can let their employees preorder drinks online?

There shouldn't be any problem with closing online orders that have zero balance. I do this all the time to do drink tests. It will be every helpful if you can upload a screenshot of the page where toast does not allow you to proceed with a zero balance. And we can start from there to see what the issue might be.

Based on the picture, I assume the error occurs when you try to submit an order with zero balance through “toast takeout” app?
last time I tried to place an order from toast takeout app, I was able to place an order with zero balance by choosing Apple Pay. I’m not sure if it has changed after updates. I will test it out later today. Have you tried to place an order through your online ordering site? It should work without a problem.

I just tested it with Toast takeout app by inputting a new credit card as payment method. My order went through successfully. I would suggest to try to place an order on the toast online ordering web page to see if you still experience the same issue.
