So, we are a fast-casual restaurant. As such, the courses option really doesn't work for us.
When a guest orders lunch items plus dessert and pays at the counter, we need the ability to hit a button (like a modifier) for the dessert item so just the dessert fires in 10 minutes. This gives us time to prepare and deliver the lunch to the guest and THEN start the dessert.
Currently, we ring up the lunch and for the dessert, we hit a modifier that says "make in 10" but then WE have to remember to tell the kitchen in 10 minutes to make it and that can be forgotten on a busy day.
So what we really need is a "fire in 10" button that will automatically fire that one (or more) specific dessert item later.
Help!

Do you use KDS or printers in the kitchen? If you use KDS you might be able to use Fire by Prep time and set your desserts for 10 minutes, and leave prep time for everything else on the menu blank so they fire right away, and the dessert would fire 10 minutes later.

I've copied that particular menu item (let's call it "dessert") and made an additional menu item with the name "Dessert Make in 12 minutes" and set the prep time to 720 seconds. I'll give it a test drive tomorrow when I'm at work. Thanks so much for the tip, rcmck!!

Darn. Tried it, but it didn't work. I think I'm seeing that it will not work with our KDS set up in grid view (which is how we need to run our KDS screen.)

Oh yeah, unfortunately it does not work with grid view.
