Sonicwall Firewall TZ370 OS 7 and Printing Problems from Toast Handheld

We are relatively new to Toast. First store go live was Feb 2nd, 2026. We are a sonicwall shop and decided to go down the road of self supported. From the beginning we were confronted with issues of HandHelds not being able to print consistently. We were always rebooting devices where printing would come back but then go out again. We discovered after much time, research, and troubleshooting that Sonicwall will only work with OS 7.0.1-5165 or 7.0.1-5169. We tried 7.1.3-7015,  7.3.1-7013, 7.3.2-7010 which did not work.

Intially we thought the problem was Multicast. So we configured Network, Multicast-Enable Multicast, and Enable Reception of All Multicast Addresses. Also configured Network, IP Helper, enabled Mdns. Also turned on Multicast Support under the X interface advanced settings. Its my understanding that Multicast is needed to allow printer devices to be discovered on the network. Also check under Policy Access Rules to ensure all rules for Toast Zone to Multicast are allowed. Also check Toast Zone to make sure the option under wireless to Only Allow Traffic generated by a SonicPoint/Sonicwave is turn off. This bit us more than once.

We also felt like our old switch was not up to the task to handle multiple VLans. We have three vlans. One for Toast Ethernet and Wifi, one for Guest Wifi, and one for Internal Use Wifi. We installed a NetGear POE GS724TPv3 layer 2 switch and configured it for Trunk ports to handle connection from the Sonicwall and  Sonicwave Access Points, The rest of the switch ports were untagged for the Toast Vlan for printers, terminals, and KDS devices. All on the same subnet as Toast Wireless 192.168.192.x.

And finally make sure in the Settings/Diag page under Routing and Network Settings the option for Fix/Ignore Malformed TCP Headers is turned on.  Make sure Enable TCP Sequence Number Randomization is turned off.

We have four stores on Toast now. Two are working with this network stack and configuration settings. The two others will be upgraded next week. Current solution for them is to not use Handhelds only terminals which it not ideal but keeps them operational. Today we are going live at another store which will have the Toast Supplied Network Solution. This is one of our highes performing stores and did not want to take a chance so we switch from Self supported to Toast Supported.

Hopefully after today I will have two solutions for network infrastructure and Toast.

I hope this helps anyone else with Sonicwalls thinking about going down this path.
