✍️ Tipping Trends: Changes in Gratitude
💸  Since 2018, full-service restaurant tips have hovered around 19.4% to 19.9%, with a notable decline during the start of the pandemic. Tips in quick-service restaurants have decreased slightly, from 16.8% in Q1 2018 to 16% in Q1 2023. However, customers are more frequently tipping when using a 💳 card or digital payment than in 2020.

💸 About 48% of transactions at QSR restaurants on the Toast platform included a tip in the form of a card or digital payment in Q4 2022. That’s up approximately 11% since Q1 2020, despite the average tip for dine-in at quick-service restaurants dropping to 16.7% in Q1 2023, the lowest in five years​.
