Call for hands notification sent to POS by KDS Screen
2 weeks ago
So my restaurant is a first-come first-serve style casual dining. We love using Toast but a feature that would allow our expo to send a notification to the POS's when they need hands would be amazing. I have tried using the POS notification that is already available, but that only triggers when we fulfill the tickets. So an individual button that the expo could press when they need service is what I am looking for. Any helpful tips from anybody with a situation like this would be great!

That would be a nice feature, the option to do that from the backend exists but it would be nice if it was extended to the POS with some preset messages to quickly send. The closest existing feature on the POS is the SOS text alerts, you can configure preset messages, and select job roles to send the text to, which would include anyone with the job role and a phone number as an option to send a text alert to. https://doc.toasttab.com/doc/platformguide/enablingAndConfiguringTextAlerts.html https://doc.toasttab.com/doc/platformguide/sendingAndReceivingTextAlerts.html

I agree that a single button tap would be nice for POS notifications. You can do it from the back-end (still within the POS), but it takes a lot of button taps and isn't ideal for a fast paced environment. This solution requires that the user that is logged into the device that you are sending the notification from has the 3.27 Send Notifications permission enabled.
Once that permission is enabled, they can log into the POS with their access code and:
Back out to the Home Screen, scroll down to Setup and tap “Other Setup"
- Under Manager, tap “Send Notifications”
Here you can write a custom message and choose which device types to send it to, as well as which jobs to send it to (whatever job the user of a targeted device is clocked in as). The POS should get a “bell” notification with your message.
I honestly don’t use this feature myself, but I knew notifications existed from back-end to POS, and I knew you could access some back-end features from “Other Setup” so I wanted to test it out. It's definitely not as ideal as the feature you are requesting, but a valid workaround.
