Tracking Purchase Conversions from Google Ads in GTM or Google Analytics through Online Ordering Pro

Hello!

I've spent the last month and a couple google ads meetings with their GTM tracking team trying to figure out how to track purchase conversions from my google ads and Ive had little success.I'm using Online Ordering Pro, I have both a google tag manager tag GTM, and a google analytics tag. I am NOT using the google ads through toast advertising and I cannot express how uninterested I am in going 15% of my adspend in perpetuity to capture this information.

with the help of the google tracking team I've setup javascript trackers through GTM.

I've also tried to separately track them with my google analytics tag.

neither of these tags have been able to capture a purchase event, and my GTM tag is unable to capture the 'subtotal' from the /confim page.

has anybody been able to set this up properly to get an accurate return on ad spend?

I've been running in circles talking to support and the google team and neither of them have been able to help me, I feel like this should be basic, but for some reason I seem to be the first person in the history of the earth to try to get purchase conversions tracked properly.

toast just tells me to put the conversion trackers in there, which they are already there, and google just gets me to setup a useless 30 minute meeting with their tag team that just says "sorry it isn't working lets setup another meeting to keep trying"

Please help me Obi-Wan

thanks,

Arash

We would love any how-to or guidance for getting conversion tracking from Toast online ordering into Google Ads using Google Tag Manager...

Thanks for sharing. Notably, our online ordering does have a consent banner handled by Toast. Perhaps this might be geography / region specific (we're in Southern California, USA)

I did notice one as well at one point. I have noticed that some things do trigger the tags on some pages, but my main block is capturing the subtotal data as well as some kind of invoice id on the confirm page.  Also in So Cal

Other than loading your Google Tag Manager container ID into the Toast online ordering settings, may I ask what you did on the GTM side?

yea ill have to dig into my configurations to give you the details which I cant do right at the moment.

I mostly barked at the ai in the google ads sidebar until it helped me setup tags, triggers and variables to use in the google tag manager and then tried to verify with their tag preview feature. I think I got about 80% of the way there and then got exhausted and setup 4 meetings with the "google tracking team" through my "google ads advisor".

to give you a high level overview Ill share some screenshots:

the user defined variables are javascript snippets to try to capture the subtotal & unique id from the page

above are triggers that fire based on a specific page load

some of the tags above are redundant, this part confused me, I can share these configurations later if needed but ill have to edit out some private info
