Hello!
I've spent the last month and a couple google ads meetings with their GTM tracking team trying to figure out how to track purchase conversions from my google ads and Ive had little success.I'm using Online Ordering Pro, I have both a google tag manager tag GTM, and a google analytics tag. I am NOT using the google ads through toast advertising and I cannot express how uninterested I am in going 15% of my adspend in perpetuity to capture this information.
with the help of the google tracking team I've setup javascript trackers through GTM.
I've also tried to separately track them with my google analytics tag.
neither of these tags have been able to capture a purchase event, and my GTM tag is unable to capture the 'subtotal' from the /confim page.
has anybody been able to set this up properly to get an accurate return on ad spend?
I've been running in circles talking to support and the google team and neither of them have been able to help me, I feel like this should be basic, but for some reason I seem to be the first person in the history of the earth to try to get purchase conversions tracked properly.
toast just tells me to put the conversion trackers in there, which they are already there, and google just gets me to setup a useless 30 minute meeting with their tag team that just says "sorry it isn't working lets setup another meeting to keep trying"
Please help me Obi-Wan
thanks,
Arash

To anyone curious I've hit a deadend on this, I'm going to give toast a month to fix this on their end by my contracted with toast should be ending soon so I'll be looking at what else is on the market, because this should be barebones functionality for a modern pos with online ordering.

Toast sells a product (Toast Advertising) in which they claim to be able to directly measure the ROAS from Google Ads campaigns... so clearly they have a way to measure conversions. Presumably they would tell Toast Advertising customers to start using Google Tag Manager and then ad tags on the customer's behalf.
Perhaps @josh212 ? Can we convince Toast to share the how-to (which they must have) with the rest of us?

Thanks for continuing to update this thread. I received an update that the consent banners were fixed; however, it seems like that is only part of the problem. I see a red flag has been created, and I relayed this to our product team to hopefully gain more insight, but I believe the red flag will be our best option to find out more here!

Hi Robert, thanks for your response. Just a point of clarification, I don't think the consent banner missing is the issue, but rather Toast added the ability to added Google Tag Manager containers to online ordering (good) but there doesn't seem to be any documentation or how-to available (bad) that tells merchants how to enable conversion tracking. Toast has access to conversion data (presumably implemented through Google Tag Manager), we just want the documentation so we can do the same for our own Google Ads. Thank you

Part of the issue is the consent banner and California regulations on user data (which I love as a private citizen), but I also learned that google analytics is better integrated into toast, and also can "fight" with google tag manager if both are installed.
I removed my google tag and fixed an issue with my google analytics tag, some data is flowing through but I'm still not seeing purchases or any actually important information that google can use to track conversion value.
the saga continues...
