Cash management help

Hi. We just started with Toast, got no support for cash management, customer service is worthless AFAICT on cash management details, and I'm trying to make sense of it.

Will start with hopefully a simple question: On the cash drawer history page, what is the "house"? How is there a "house" independent of servers and the drawer?

Thank you.

Welcome to Toast. I apologize that support could not assist you. We also offer free on-demand training to learn more about the cash management system; the link is below.

The "house" refers to the restaurant, which is why it is independent of servers and bartenders.

Thanks for the response.

I understand it means the restaurant. What does that mean as a practical matter in terms of what's being entered in the system?  I.e., why is there money showing in the house category? There are orders being entered not associated with a server? If so, why and how?

I'm not sure how your location is being managed, but there could be several reasons for this discrepancy, such as a cash drop or service charges being assigned to the house. It's difficult to say for sure, but if you compare the "Cash Activity Audit" and the "Cash Drawer Report," you should be able to find the sales assigned to the house from there.

Other community members may be able to provide more help. I would need to see the numbers to offer further assistance.

Cash Drop: Moves cash from a cash drawer to the house. This is a security feature for when a cash drawer has too much cash and allows you to drop a specified amount into a more secure location (e.g. a safe in the office).
