Toast Tips Manager Missing Functionality

I wanted to raise a concern (and hopefully get some clarity) regarding how Toast Tips Manager handles tip distribution. It seems like the system is missing the flexibility to tip out kitchen staff differently than other roles—something that I believe is a significant gap in the setup.

Here’s the issue:

In many restaurants, we have a kitchen prep team that comes in early and plays a critical role in setting up for the revenue-generating service hours. Ideally, I’d like to tip out this group based on the day, since they contribute to the whole day’s success—even if they leave before service.

On the other hand, I’d like to tip out front-of-house support roles like bussers, runners, and hosts by shift, since their contribution is more tied to specific service windows.

Currently, Toast Tips Manager only allows tips to be distributed by order, shift, or day—but not a combination by role. If I set it to tip by shift or order, the AM prep team gets excluded. And if I set it by day, it becomes unfair or inaccurate for those working specific service shifts.

I’ve heard the suggestion to create separate roles for AM and PM kitchen staff, but this feels clunky and doesn't work well when staff float between both shifts.

Am I missing a workaround here? Or is this just a limitation of the current system? I’m hoping it’s possible and just not well-documented, as this would be a really valuable improvement for many operators.

Hi again, I checked with the product team on this as well. Unfortunately, you can only choose one daypart to apply to all rules. The separate roles for AM/PM is a good workaround to try. We've shared this feedback with the team and they will take this into consideration as we look toward improvements to the product! 

Can anyone else using toast and having run into this situation let me know how they handle this as it seems like a fairly large hole that needs to be filled in terms of how tips could be pooled for support staff such as a prep team etc.
