Thanks for reaching out!
SKU and Barcode are effectively the same field for menu items. If an item has a barcode, like bottled beer, canned drinks, or retail merchandise, you can enter or scan that barcode into the SKU field so it can be scanned at the POS.
For a large menu migration, the easiest option is usually the Menu Bulk Import Tool in Toast Web. Go to Menus > Bulk management > Bulk import tool, download the item template, add your item names/prices, and enter the barcode/SKU values in the SKU column before uploading the CSV.
For smaller batches, you can use Advanced Properties under Menus > Bulk management > Advanced properties, show the SKU column, and type or paste the SKUs directly into the grid.
For one-off edits, you can also use Quick Edit on the Toast terminal by pressing and holding the menu item, entering Quick Edit, and adding or scanning the SKU/barcode there.
A few important notes: modifiers cannot have SKUs, so anything that needs a barcode should be built as a standalone menu item. Also, make sure SKUs are enabled on the device under Setup > Device Setup > Order Screen > Enable SKUs before testing.
Use the Menu Bulk Import Tool
Create Menus, Groups, Subgroups, and Items in the Menu Builder
Use Advanced Properties to Edit Your Menu in Bulk
Use Barcodes With Toast
