In this post, you can find updates on the following:

Do you have questions or feedback from the Product team? We'd love to hear from you in the comments below! 👇

Restaurant Retail - Receiving units

We know most restaurants do not receive inventory in single units - so we’re making your workflow and counting easier with the ability to set receiving units!

Now, you can set a unit and quantity for receiving that will take the mental math out of counting single unit inventory, calculating single unit cost, and margin. This feature also brings some changes to our receiving page. Now, you can see the original values for cost, price, margin, quantity, and markup, and also the new expected values after receiving the new inventory.

Toast Websites - Scrolling animation

A little bit of motion on a page introduces a touch of sophistication that can make a website really pop. Now, restaurants using Toast Websites can add a simple scrolling animation to their pages with just the flick of a switch.

Toast Websites - UserWay’s accessibility widget

UserWay is an accessibility widget that puts the power to make accessibility adjustments into your hands. Restaurants using Toast Websites now have the option to add this widget to their site, opening a range of accessibility options to their guests, including but not limited to increased font sizes, contrast options, dyslexia-friendly fonts, cursor options, and more.

Toast Websites - Business hour controls

Until now, Location Hours in the Toast Websites settings have been used as a way to display open and closing times for guests. However, we have heard from restaurant owners who prefer to have greater control over what is shown on their site vs. what is used for operating purposes — and we’ve delivered.

Now, restaurants can update the times shown on their site from inside their Toast Websites editor, including adding overrides. This only affects what’s shown on the website, and is a great tool for restaurants who want more control over what they show their guests.

Toast Tables - Reservation deposits

No-shows? No problem. Toast Tables Deposits helps prevent restaurant no-shows and cancellations by allowing you to take reservation deposits from guests based on party size, service period, and dining area. The guest’s reservation deposit will then be applied towards their bill.

Note: Deposits are not the same as credit card holds (where customers are only charged if they no-show or cancel last minute). Instead, all reservations that require a deposit are charged, and you may keep the deposit if the guest no-shows or cancels outside of your configured refund time frame.

Toast Tables - Smart algorithm wait time estimator

We’ve launched a new wait time estimation algorithm that can be used by Toast restaurants using Toast Tables. This can be toggled on under Toast Tables Settings > Waitlist > Wait Time Estimator settings.

Customers now have two options to choose from:

  • Manual Multiplier: This is a simple equation based on a guest’s place in line. It’s great if you want to keep settings simple and you don’t seat guests in the app.
  • Smart Algorithm: This is a dynamic multiplier that is calculated based on party size, dining area preference, table capacities, and upcoming waitlist & reservation bookings.

Note: For an accurate Smart Algorithm calculation, you must seat all parties in the Host App, use all available dining areas, and configure certain settings within Toast Tables.

Toast Go 2 - Forget incorrect network

When Toast Go and Toast Go 2 handheld devices are connected to the wrong wireless network, they cannot print and take payments. In this situation, restaurant employees can use a troubleshooting function on the POS device to reconnect to the correct wireless network and resume printing and taking payments.

With this new release, when a restaurant employee uses the troubleshooting function to reconnect to the correct network, the device automatically forgets the secondary Toast wireless network named _Secure. The secondary _Secure network does not support taking payments and printing. Forgetting the incorrect network prevents the device from reconnecting to it in the future.

Printer - Label sizes

Label printers L90 and TLP400 have been updated to support additional label sizes: 1.5 x 3 inches, 3 x 1.5 inches, and 3 x 2 inches.

Custom logos and footers have been omitted for smaller item labels to maintain readability. Modifiers will be displayed; however, if space becomes constrained, a summarization (e.g., "+3 modifiers") will be presented on the label's final line. Users have the flexibility to prominently display either the guest's name or the ticket number at the top of the label. Importantly, with your existing 3 x 3-inch paper, these new sizes will print without adjustment. Please note that labels smaller than 3 x 3 inches might be oriented horizontally to maximize efficient paper usage.

Toast Takeout - Listing gift card locations

Do you use Toast Gift Cards but do not yet use Toast Online Ordering? With this new release, all locations with an “active” Toast Gift Card module can be searched for in the Toast Takeout app. Now, guests can navigate to these locations to purchase gift cards, view the menu, view hours, track loyalty progress, etc. The only thing they cannot do is place off-prem orders.

Note: These locations do not appear in restaurant browse lists such as nearby restaurants, search tab browse, and map.

Multi-Location Management - Scheduled publishing

The scheduled publishing feature lets you make changes to your Toast configuration that are then saved and published at a later date and time. When you use this feature, you create change sets. A change set records updates you want to make to your Toast platform configuration. At a date and time that you specify, the updates in the change set are saved to the saved database and then immediately published to the published database, making them available to restaurant employees and guests.

Thank you so much for the scheduled publishing, however, I do have a suggestion that a lot of operators will appreciate, especially for multi-level management locations.  This feature is only useful for pricing updates.  Another added feature would be when menu items are added such as a rollout or special event, to be able to schedule to publish.  It's very frustrating having to program and then wait for the release date at the certain time and publish manually.
