I'd like to suggest a feature that I believe would significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of packing carryout and delivery orders. Currently, Toast prints each menu item with its modifiers, which works well for the kitchen while preparing food. However, when it's time to assemble and package the order, staff must manually scan the entire ticket to ensure every side dish, soup, salad, sauce, and condiment has been included. It would be extremely helpful if Toast offered an optional "Packing Summary" or "Packing Checklist" that automatically aggregated the quantities of all included items for carryout and delivery orders. For example, instead of reading through every entrée individually, the ticket could include a summary such as: 1 Sandwich, 2 Entrées, Fries x1, Mashed Potatoes x2, Sauerkraut x1, Red Cabbage x1, Lentil Soup x1, House Salad x1, House Dressing x1. This summary wouldn't replace the kitchen ticket—it would simply provide the person packing the order with a quick checklist to verify that everything has been included before the bag is sealed. Restaurants with customizable sides and modifiers would benefit from faster assembly, fewer missing items, fewer remakes, and improved guest satisfaction. Since Toast already knows every modifier and quantity in the order, this seems like it could be implemented as an optional print setting for carryout and delivery tickets or expediter tickets. This feature would not change how the kitchen prepares food; it would simply provide the employee assembling the carryout or delivery order with a concise verification checklist to reduce packing errors.
