Is a $0 Discount Possible for Online e-Gift Card Purchases

Subject says it all, but I'll provide some context. I'm hoping somebody can help me out by testing this idea and answering a few questions.

When we onboarded with Toast, we decided to stick with our existing GC provider because they integrate with Toast and it made the multi-location onboarding rollout easier. We are now finally planning the switch to Toast GC, and considering all aspects of our operation before making the switch. One thing we need to determine ASAP is how to handle our GC promotions for the Fall, for which we are sending information out right now.

We love to give back to the community, and one promotion we run multiple times a year is a group fundraising effort to support local sports teams, PTOs, etc. by donating a portion of our online gift card sales during a given week. When we run this promotion, we are collecting for multiple organizations at the same time, and the guest chooses which one to support. I figure with Toast, the best way to this is set up $0 check-level discounts, and set up a promo code for each. Each organization is assigned a promo code and a time frame for guests to use that promo code on an e-Gift card purchase.

I have seen the Toast Central guides on discounting Gift Cards and e-Gift Cards, so that part I understand. I also know about Toast Fundraising, but we will be using that to support another single charity at the same time. Support has been extremely slow with this particular question, and Toast Classroom Office Hours could not address it specifically enough. My questions:

  1. Will online e-Gift card sales accept a promo code for a check-level discount if the ability to discount a gift card is turned off?
  2. Will online e-Gift card sales accept a promo code for a flat $0 check level discount?

It works great in the POS for a physical gift card, but I have no way of testing online.

Thank you for your help!

I use toast for giftcards and just tested this, was able to set fixed $0 off for the discount code and apply it to an egift card sale, the discount showed up under discounts report with the name of the discount. I did not test with ability to discount gift cards turned off though.

@rcmck Thank you so much for taking the time to test this. Puts my mind at ease that it can at least be done online!
