Larger Parties / Groups

Hi, we are a larger bar/grill that does not typically host parties or really large groups.  We do, however, make an occasional exception.  Our servers work for their own tips 99% of the time, but with the big parties, they split.  We normally ring everything in under a generic login.  I have some issues/questions about the tips and claiming the CC tips that were recorded on the dummy number.  If a group leaves a tip of $400 on a credit card, it shows up on that user.  I then have my servers login with their own number and claim their tips as cash.  My question is what happens with the CC tip on the dummy number?  Is that rolling up as a tax liability to anyone?

Really just looking to see how others handle larger groups (20+ people) and how they handle the tip situation at the end of the night.  Thanks!

The way our servers do it is almost like how you are doing it. You could do it the same way with the dummy account, but would only work if you also clock them out at the end of the night and declare tips.

Our servers generally will have the bill under one server, they will divide the tip from the party, server A will declare a negative tip in that amount while server B will declare a positive tip in that amount when they do their clock out at the end of their shift. In your case you would have 3, server A(dummy account), servers B & C your actual servers
