I'm trying not to make this any more complicated than it needs to be but.... we pool tips and we just started some split shifts yesterday. Which is more fair?
1) Take all tips and split by amount of time worked, compared to each other - meaning, % of total.
OR
2) Position A works all day, no split shift. Position B has 2 people working 52/48. Position C has 2 people working 50/50. Divide tips by 3 and then apply the % of time worked within the position. So position A gets 100% of 1/3 of the tips. Position B gets 48% and 52% of 1/3 of the tips. And Position C splits the last 1/3 of tips 50/50.
I tested the math and there's a significant difference in $.
