AWS Outage Impacting Toast Systems (Offline Mode Checklist)

Hi Toast Community,

We are aware of a Third Party partner outage affecting multiple Toast Systems and are investigating. Your devices should automatically enter Offline Mode, allowing you to continue to place orders, print tickets and receipts, and take card payments. Until your connection is reestablished, please follow the steps in our offline mode checklist.

Update: We are beginning to see positive signs of recovery from our Third Party partner, and some Toast systems are beginning to operate normally. We are continuing work to bring systems back online. As you prepare to get back online, we recommend taking these recovery steps to help support a smooth transition.

That is actually just the KDS sync at the moment, the plan is for everything to be able to sync locally, which is what I was referring to. There was an email today outlining some other plans, it was mentioned there as well, it might be getting a little high priority now. 

Not being able to open the cashier drawer is odd, have you experience that in past outages? I can't recall.

This has been a complete debacle, negatively impacting restaurants across the country.  Why doesn't Toast have a backup server in a different cloud location ready to go for times like this?  A few minutes of pointing everything to the backup server and we would have been up and running hours ago.  This shows how small Toast is as a company, and I hope they learn from this experience as they grow.  Don't put all your eggs in one basket.  

OK I do understand that AWS is coming online and Toast is working through that but Toast Tables has worked all through lunch but now that we are about to start dinner service Toast Tables is dead. what happened there?

 

We've been unable to print receipts or take credit cards at all. This is crazy. I read we can still print tickets and receipts and take card payments. We are not able to do nothing.
