Convenience / Service / Restaurant Fee

Good afternoon,

Could someone please assist me in setting up our POS to pass along a convenience fee to our patrons? We have been using Toast less than one year. We originally had this worked out, but we received notice from Toast that we had to make a change in December in order to be compliant. We were offered to use a program that was in “Beta”. I have spoken with Toast Care on three different occasions this beta set up and it still doesn’t appear to be working properly. Is there some sort of work around that you guys have figured out? We are a nonprofit  benevolent organization with less than $2000 per week in sales and we can’t absorb the 3.89%. Any advice would be much appreciated.

We are also a non-profit and purchased the system based upon the salesperson's statement that these fees could be passed on to the customer. During my set up phase, I was told that that option was only through a BETA version that we didn't have. The only work around you can do is set up a service charge and name it a convenience fee. You can put in the percentage you want to charge. If the patron is paying with a credit or debit card, your server or bartender will need to add the service charge to their checks and make sure you set up that the house keeps the service charge (not the server/bartender). We posted signs in our lodge stating that the Convenience Fee would be added to all Debit/Credit Card Transactions. Hope that helps.
