Hi All 🙂
I’m trying to insert my Google Tag Manager but only see the google analytics field.
Anyone know where I can insert my GTM code?
Were doing Online order Thank You page tracking, Table Reservations/Korean BBQ table reservation tracking, etc.
Maybe there's a better way to do this, please let me know. Thank you 🙂

Hi,
Toast somewhat recently added a spot under the advanced settings to integrate Google Tag Manager (August '24 ?). Just drop your Tag info in. Don't recall this being announced. This is specific to Online Ordering though from what we see. The tag is not populated on e-gift cards, reservations. If you would like to get e-comm feedback, GTM needs to be setup to receive the ecomm info from the Toast online ordering site. Need to setup cross-domain tracking also if you have a typically website.
What would be helpful from a Toast perspective would be to create a GTM template that could be imported with all the proper Tag settings.

You can't use tag manager, just google analytics and I think facebook pixel, is there another service you are trying to use?

Does anyone on this forum actually have a working Google Tag Manager implementation with conversion tracking for online ordering? Or is this just a hypothetical at this point?

We don't want to speak for Toast, Toast would need to confirm whether anything has changed recently with the data layer.
From our side (our clients), Toast Online Ordering conversion tracking through GTM is possible. We have it working and can see completed online orders, transaction IDs, and revenue/order value.
Where I think some of the confusion comes in is the expectation. This is not a Shopify or WooCommerce type setup where a full standardized ecommerce data layer is passed cleanly into GA4/GTM. If that is the expectation, we do not believe Toast Online Ordering works in this manner, at least not from what we have observed.
So the answer is yes, online order conversion tracking can work. But no, it does not appear to be a fully plug-and-play GA4 ecommerce implementation with all standard ecommerce events and item-level data clearly documented.
The bigger issue is that there does not seem to be a clear support path for this. Our team has spent a fair amount of time trying to get to the right Toast support team for GTM/tracking questions, and it has not been obvious what/who owns that area.
That is why a Toast-provided GTM template, better documentation, or a clear answer from Toast on what data layer values are currently supported would be very helpful.
