Pre-authorizations -- 2 questions

Hello team

I have a two questions about pre-authorization of credit cards.

1) Is it possible to pre-authorize a card once items have been rung in? I don't see an obvious way, but I'm hoping a work-around exists.

2) Just to verify, when a final bill is paid with a pre-authorized card, only the balance is authorized, but the final bill completed for the total amount, correct? (ie pre-auth amount is $10; final bill is $20 so card is authorized for an additional $10 and final receipt to sign reads $20).

Thanks!
Patience

Hey, @Patience thanks for reaching out!
1. It is not possible to pre-auth a card once items are on the check

2. When a card is pre-authorized, it only checks once; even if the items added exceed the amount pre-authorized, it will not auto-check for the funds a second time.
Let's say you pre-auth a card for $10, and their bill was $20, but they only actually had $10 on their card; if the guest leaves and does not close out the bill, this transaction will be declined for insufficient funds when you try to close out the check. However, if they go through the close-out process, you can ask them for another form of payment if it declines.
