Good Day All! KDS Kitchen Display System question.
There are many restaurants where the guest is allowed to choose two sides with their dinner.
We have those sides setup as menu item modifiers such as (Mac and cheese | beans | coleslaw | mashed potatoes etc..)
We have many dinners that use these sides so we want the KDS screen at the sides station to just show very cleanly the sides not the entree. Our problem now it's too hard to read because it groups by entree first then modifiers. So if you have 20 entrees its really hard to get an ALL DAY on those sides such as mac and cheese...
How can we send those side choices to a KDS screen as stand alone items even though they are modifiers?
How have other restaurants done this?

You would route that modifier to sides prep station, need to enable print or show modifiers only under kitchen setup, here is an article on setting it up. https://central.toasttab.com/s/article/Routing-Kitchen-Tickets-by-Modifier

Two or three options depending on your preference.
1. UI option, fire modifiers separate from parent item. (Make sure you name what the modifier is or your going to get a ticket that just says spinach with no reference of what for
2. you can have each side as a nested modifier and then items used as a modifier aka
chicken parm
Over pasta
Spaghetti
Side Salad
house dressing
No onion
3. Don’t have the modifiers inherit prep station rather select a different prep station
4. Don’t split by seat on kitchen tickets have Grouping and print order as fulfilled to get expo ticket
5. press all day mode and it will group it for you
