Loyalty Program Phone Number VS Email

Hello, we are looking at starting to use email marketing. In order to collect more emails I was goin to change the loyalty sign up from the current phone number sign up to an email sign up. My question is if I changed to email sign up will my customers who have used their numbers for the past year still get their points??????????

I am 99% sure it doesn't affect anything, I have never actually it changed though, but I use phone number and can lookup accounts with phone or email. Another thing that you can utilize is the birthday reward if you offer one and encourage guests to follow the link they get in a text when they sign up to enter their birthday, they will also be asked for an email address when they do.
