Why is it SO hard to add a customer to Loyalty on POS and GO???

Ok guys,  What am I missing here???

Server asks customer,  Are you part of our loyalty program?

Customer Says no. but would like to be. 

Server says all we need to sign you up is a phone number.

Customer gives phone number....  

WHATS THE NEXT STEP???  How do they add that customer on GO 2 and sign them up??

The documentation is not clear at all.

If that is the case, I don't think there is a way to "sign up" while opening a tab. Non-loyalty Customers are prompted to sign up for loyalty program on screen "after" payment is made. What you can do is to ask customer's phone number and enter their phone number after choosing a dining option so that the system has customer's phone number in advance. Customer won't need to enter their number again when prompted. But customers or your staff will still need to click that "signup" button when prompted after payment to create an account.

The alternative solution would be to create an account by going back to the closed check as mentioned earlier.

I'm sharing my experience from a quick service POV. I would suggest that we wait for @rcmck or other people to chime in tomorrow. There could be a workaround or a different workflow.

Thank you so much for the feedback... I just discovered this same workflow and it might actually work for me.   

1.   Ask all customers if they would like to earn points on their meal and earn a sign up bonus.
2.  If they say yes,   Ask for their first name and phone number.   
3.  Server opens a new tab,  and immediately selects "Change Customer" under the dropdown. 
4. Server enters phone number and if an account exists,  select that account,  if not,   System asks for the customers First name.
5.  Server continues serving process like normal.  
6.   Upon payment completion,  server clicks the signup button with the phone number pre-filled.  

My other option I am leaning towards is a QR code on the tables.  They can sign up then remind servers to add their number to the tab.

That is definitely another alternative way for customer to create an account anytime on their own. Here you should be able to find the link to the sign-up webpage for your location: https://www.toasttab.com/restaurants/admin/loyaltyprogram/settings#Promote-your-program and then use a QR code generator to turn the link for sign-up page into a QR code.

There is actually a QR code now under add visuals to store.

If customers don't have a existing check on the POS, they can still sign up through the sign-up webpage provided by Toast.
