Anyone have issues with FOH staff voiding cash payments after the ticket is closed? We have video of the sale being made, and then the ticket voided later in the day or at end of day.
HOWEVER, Toast is telling us that if the payment is captured, even if it's voided, then it's still added to the cash drawer. Are we misinterpreting Toast or does our Toast rep not quite understand what's going on here?
I'm wondering if the voids are happening before the cash is captured, and what really is showing is that the void is captured? Then our shift manager are pocketing the cash when they close out the drawer?
Here's an example.

If the cash payment is voided on the same drawer it was taken on, it will be removed from the cash sales. If it is voided on another device, then an error will occur.
Assuming they are doing the cash voids correctly, those cash sales are removed. The capture process only applies to payments that are batched first. Once a credit card transaction is captured, you can no longer void it, but cash payments are different; you can void these whenever you want, for the most part, if I'm not mistaken.

@Rob @eevans11 so the cash voiding part is correct when you are speaking about just solely voiding the payment. Now that being said the check still needs to be paid for (ex you hit cash by mistake versus guest pay and you now need to void the cash payment and allow the guest to pay with their card. So the order either would need to be voided down to zero dollars in order for that cash theft to occur. This would mean you also need all the items to voided as well; which you can track in your report and no one should be that stupid (I say should be in the lightest way because I’ve seen pretty much everything happen.)
Now the only thing that I would look for is if something happened to those items after the cash was voided. Let’s say it’s an item that doesn’t need a ticket ex a bartender ringing it a few beers now let’s say they voided the cash payment and then transferred the beers to a new check because they didn’t ring in their beers yet then yes it is possible for it to be theft (the old soda or coffee trick of where the one soda is printed 50 times because it’s always paid cash and doesn’t require a chit to be printed.
if all the items are still on the check then you have nothing to worry about
