Eliminating the cash drawer function?

We keep cash in the drawer but maintain the balance outside of our POS. Our Toast onsight go live agent set up the cash drawer to function as part of the daily operations. In reading about Cash Drawers on Toast Web it sounds as if if we turn off the function we can  not access the drawer at all. Is that true?

I don't know if I am fully understanding the question, but if you didn't have a cash drawer, cash would go into hand as if you were a server with a cash bank. You could still use the cash drawer with a key but it won't open when hitting the cash button if that is what you mean.
