Context: We already accept EBT/SNAP in Toast, but magstripe swipe isn’t supported on our terminals. Staff must use other entry methods (e.g., keyed/insert), which slows checkout and increases errors during busy periods.
Request: Add EBT magstripe swipe support (in addition to existing methods), with routing for EBT Food and EBT Cash.
Why it matters:
Speed & accuracy: swiping is faster than keyed entry and reduces PAN/entry errors.
Accessibility: many EBT cards in our market are magstripe-first; swipe is expected.
Fewer workarounds: keeps everything in Toast without bouncing to a separate flow or device.
Nice-to-haves:
Fallback logic: if chip/contactless fails or card is worn, allow swipe where compliant.
Balance-aware prompts and compliant receipt details remain unchanged.
Permission + audit trail for EBT transactions.
