We are looking to set up a targeted promotion and want to see if this is possible within our current system.

Specifically, we want to create a discount that only applies to a particular customer group. For example, we want our Wine Club Members to automatically receive a discount on wine purchases, while regular customers pay the standard price.

Could anyone share the best way to handle this?

I think I found something that might work in your case. Under loyalty setting, you can add a "item" reward type with custom % discount and eligible items. The only problem is your guests must have at least "1 point" to redeem the reward. And it doesn't auto apply the reward. Staff must manually apply the reward (or if you have a guest facing display, I think system will also prompt  guests to choose available reward when paying). Other than that, it meets your member-only requirement.
