Storing CC info for bar tabs

I work in a fast paced brewery/restaurant.  When a guest wants to start a tab, I take their CC and swipe it.  However, the system only stores their name (and items on their tab).  When they come back to pay their tab, I have to get their card again to swipe/pay.  This is confusing for them since I already swiped the card.  It’s also inconvenient if the spouse comes up to pay, then they have to go back and get the card.  Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a way to open the tab so that it stores their info and I don’t have to get their card back to pay it?

You need to enable pre-authorization if you want to do that.
