An Appetizer that is both an Item and a Modifier

We are trying to see if there is a work around for this situation... The restaurant is a very, very busy Lobster Pound. We offer chowder appetizers that are set up as menu items (Fish Chowder, Lobster Stew, Clam Chowder). However, we also have an entree called a Shore Dinner where guests get a choice of chowder, and other sides like mussels or steamers. So in the case of the Shore Dinner, we've set up the Chowder Type as a modifier to the Shore Dinner. We used 'set up modifier from existing item' so as not to have any chowder dupes. The problem is, the kitchen often misses the Chowder 'appetizer ' because it appears as a modifier under the Shore Dinner and isn't grouped with all the other appetizer items on the ticket/kds. Is there a way to make the Shore Dinner's chowder appear with all the other guest's appetizers on the ticket? The only thing we have been able to figure out is just to color code all the appetizers yellow so they are highlighted as apps on the kds. But it isn't really solving the issue.

You would need to enable course pacing if you don't already, if you do you need to set the setting to fire modifiers with their configured course.

You are going to need to use the item as a modifier and then have the modifier inherit its behavior form the item but that modifier needs to be also set to not just print the modifier but the whole item. Also change the behavior the modifer based on the menu you are using it with and lastly make sure you set prep stations to list other stations working on the ticket so they can see the full order for that course. I would need to really look at your menu to get a better idea of the best practice
