How to exclude menu items from delivery

We are looking to exclude specific menu items from delivery (currently use TDS). Is there a way to do this in Toast?

We still wish to sell this item via our online store for PICKUP only. We simply want to exclude it from delivery.

Got this from the chatbot which seems about right.. The menu duplication is required when you want to maybe change your pricing strategy. For us we bump our prices slightly higher for Uber/DD/GH etc to offset the big commission.  But if you have just have inhouse and Takeout, just adjust visibility as its suggested below. 

The help has come a long way, its better than the phone agents LOL 🙂

  1. Go to Menu Builder in Toast Web
  2. Select your menu, group, or individual items
  3. Find "Channel visibility" section for each item
  4. Choose visibility options:
     POS - for in-restaurant orders on terminals
     Toast Online Ordering, Local by Toast app - for takeout/online orders
To drop items from takeout, simply uncheck the "Toast Online Ordering" option for those specific items while keeping "POS" checked.
You can also use Advanced Properties to bulk edit visibility settings across multiple items at once. This lets you quickly manage which items show up where without creating separate menus.
Save and publish your changes to push them live to your devices.

Ok perhaps I'm not being clear about what I'm looking to do. Let's use an example.

I have a catering item e.g. Wing Tray. I want to sell the Wing Tray to customers via my online store, but I don't want customers to have the option to get this delivered. Keep in mind, I'm not using 3rd party online ordering partners, but using Toast's own TDS for my delivery using Doordash drivers.

Based on Toast's channel visibility, I'm not able able to do this today. Here's the options I have:

  • POS
  • Kiosk, Toast Order and Pay
  • Toast Online Ordering, Toast Takeout App 
  • Customer invoices
  • Online ordering partners

If I don't check the Toast Online Ordering, Toast Takeout App channel, then it won't show up on my online store. Which means my customers can't purchase it via my online store. Creating duplicate menus won't solve this, since there's no way to achieve this using current channel visibility settings (at least the ones available to me).

Also, Online Ordering Partners channel is irrelevant here, since we're not using them and they refer to 3rd party ordering partners like Doordash and UberEats.

So what I'd like to see is a new Item-level setting: "Exclude from Delivery". When this delivery option is selected, any menus/items will not show up on the online store (or Online Ordering Partners). And any items already in the shopping cart will be removed from the shopping cart (with a warning), or the customer will have to switch to Pickup.

Appreciate the work thinking through this with me, but I think I'm stuck unless Toast ships a new feature.









 

 

I see now, sorry about the confusion, you are correct, there isn't a “Exclude from Delivery / Pickup only” toggle right now.
