Seat positions

I am about to start with Toast and I am having problems with seat positions. First, my waiters deliver DRINKS, so I would like to have Seat positions MANDATORY for food ONLY. Is it possible? Same problem for BAR seats.

Second... Sometimes I need to mark two or more seat positions for one plate and I do not know how to do it. POS allows me only one. Is it possible?

Welcome to Toast, and thanks for reaching out to the community!

  • For your first point, you can configure seat numbers to be required, optional, or off for both Quick Order and Table Service modes. However, the system does not allow you to make seat positions mandatory for food only while keeping them optional for drinks. Maybe there is a workaround where you make Quick Order optional and Table service Required, and put food in through Table service mode and drinks through Quick Order, but I'm not sure if that would work, or if that is even possible with your workflow.

  • For your second point, the POS currently allows assigning a menu item to only one seat position. It does not support marking two or more seat positions for one plate.

Enable Seat Numbers and Party Sizes for POS Orders
    Use Order by Seat

Rob,

One option that would work to assign the same item to multiple seats would be the following:

Before hitting send, you can split an individual item. It would turn an item from being like Surf & Turf into reading as 1/2 Surf & Turf  and another 1/2 Surf & Turf. Your screen will still be on hold. Each of those new items can have their own modifiers adjusted. It will read very poorly in the kitchen, as well as on a check/receipt, but it is something that is physically possible if you want to ignore the downsides.

Best,

Brian

Thats a good idea thanks for the workaround!
