86ing items across multiple menus

Im trying to be able to 86 and item and then at the same time, if another menu item uses the same product, have that item 86ed or decrease in quantity as well at the same time

Hi @Todd1

I've heard that if an item is marked as out-of-stock, and another item uses that item as a default modifier (pre-selected by default), then they should share the same status automatically. Otherwise, those items will need to be marked separately.

Personally, I would love if Toast could implement item count/out-of-stock status for production items, but no such feature exists yet.

but i need it to have the item attached, not a a modifier. any suggestions?

Unfortunately no. If the out-of-stock item(s)/modifier reference item(s) don't share the same database number, or if one is not a default modifier of the other, then their count can not be linked and they will need to be marked separately.

It can be done in some cases where the other place it's used is a modifier of another item. For example your main item is a pulled pork sandwich, and you had an option to add pulled pork to a nacho or something as a modifier, you could create that modifier from the existing item and if you 86 pulled pork sandwich the modifier would be 86d as well. Though this can have some issues as well like any modifiers that are directly attached to the sandwich with also attach to the modifier. ( I've yet to find a way to stop that from happening)

I have mostly used it for sides where I have sides available a la carte and the option to add those sides to sandwiches and entrees with different prices depending on what it is an what it is being added to. But I can 86 mashed potatoes under the sides menu and it's 86d everywhere it's used.

Like @nbunda said, having counts linked to production items would solve this issue when it comes to a burger patty used on several different burgers or chicken breast etc.
