Our restaurant bills regularly, 10K to 40K on a single check. Private Even Party and we are the host.
Multiple servers are running this order. Cocktail orders. Water Orders. Wine bottle service.
Each server opens a ticket while the table is in chaos mode (everyone standing and walking around hand shaking). So we open separate tickets in the same area on the map (resource location?
To merge 10 checks is very very very very tedious. TOAST merges back, back, back... and then we have to click 200 to 300 boxes and tap tap tap tap for 10 minutes, to get alllllllllll the ckecks onto one bill.
Today there was a straggling check of 3K that was not merged. How did it happen? I looked at "Split" and there was nothing. But that was not the case. I went home and the other server found the missing / forgotten merged check that was on the back side of Split???? Who knows.
So: Merged table 95 to table 90, Merge split? Or merge to one bill (no hidden split tickets hiding behind tickets and tickets)? Choose A or B. B, merge all to one bill not splits no hiding!
We have 4 Toast terminals and 6 handhelds. And it's not enough. But that's no your fault. But merging tickets is currently NOT very good. Not for us. Merging 10 tickets is our normal. And it take WAYYYYYYYYY to long.
Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap, move here.
Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap Tap , move here... over and over and over until 300 lines are moved in a Split.
How about merge ticket: A) Merge to a split check? B) Merge to a single check, not hiding behind checks in s Split, not hiding anything, all on a single check? I choose B. Merge the check to a single check, no tricks, not hiding, because I need to get this check merged and I don't have time to tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap and tap tap tap tap and tap tap tap tap tap move move move move...
This is a big deal, because we lose check to the back of the check. WE ARE WAY TOO BUSY to merge checks like this!
Please help!

You would do it without doing anything with merging at all (assuming you are just combining all the items on all the tables to one table/check) I am working on sending you a video example, I will send it via Direct message, will be easier to follow if you have any follow up questions.

Also, I'd have to see if this works on my next shift. Usually, all of us in the restaurant, long-press on a table until "Merge" pops up. But, selecting Pay first isn't intuitive as suggested. I'll have to test this out. I kinda rambled up there because there was a $3K check that was missed on a merge/combine check. We had 5 servers with multiple tickets open on the same section (private party) of 8 tables. Merging is a nightmare because it's about 300 lines and tick/check-boxes to move line items over one by one after a merge/combining of checks. They don't merge-ready-to-pay onto one bill. You have to go to "SPLIT" (split check) and scroll through alllll the checks and tappy tap tap all the items and tap-to-move. Is that clearer?

That is one way to do it, but more for merging tables, not very efficient (as you described) for combining a lot of open checks. Also sorry for the confusion, was just saying payment terminal, you would not pay the checks first, that is just the name of the POS mode, probably more well know as the all checks screen.

You mentioned "one way to do it". I'm confused again. So, there is a better way? As I said, 10 check on separate tables to one single bill... Hit the ellipsis (3 dots) to combine several tables? Or once tables are combined/merged, hit the ellipsis and "combine several of the underlying checks that are in SPLIT-checks to one single bill". Checks or Tables? I mean a table is a check also right? If I merge tables/checks, they all are split. So there is a way to avoid that? Or once they are merged, I can then once again "merge" all the split checks into one single bill? Whew! What a doozy! Where am I?

The way you have been doing it is one way, but yes, there is an easier way to do it, you would avoid all of that, and just combine the check items from multiple existing checks onto one, see my other reply https://community.toasttab.com/t5/restaurant-operations/combine-checks-merge-multiple-checks-on-a-30...

Ok. I don't know why there are separate replies on different page. Weird. That's why I couldn't follow the conversation. Very interesting. I clicked on your link, but it's on a different page. Not sure what screen that is, but I will have to hit the ellipsis at some point and test it out. From a single check? Or once the checks are "merged", but also separate. You understand that right? Merging tables merges, but also splits checks. I guess better would be, "Merge and Split" or "Merge Single Bill One table nothing hidden". I'll have to do some digging. If only the TOAST Master gave us a clue when he delivered us the software & hardware. Okay then, thanks!
